Absent Students
Today we shared our responses to the stations activity. I won't be posting an answer key here for this as there were many, many correct answers. There are a few things I want you to take away from the lesson:
- The opening activity (seismograph on different substances) shows how waves travel differently through substances. This helps us understand what is inside the earth.
- The convection bottle (candle station) shows how material in the asthenosphere moves. The substance rises as it is heated because it is becoming less dense. Do not say that heat rises! The heat from the flame warmed the liquid in the bottle which caused the liquid to rise. As it rose, it cooled, became more dense, and sank.
- Download handout 12. Complete steps 1-3.
